A Glimpse Through the Lens
Dennis Riedel and his wife Debbie are excited to move their two daughters and baby on the way to Traverse City as the new owners of Phillips Lifestyles. After spending many summers in the area enjoying hiking, golf and great food, they were thrilled about the opportunity to move their growing family from Southwest Florida to Northern Michigan. They look forward to carrying on the legacy of Phillips Lifestyles as a family owned and operated business.

Read Bio Before joining Phillips Lifestyles, Dennis Riedel co-founded Chef’s Cut Real Jerky Co. and helped build it from the ground up into a major retail brand. In August 2024, he and his wife, Debbie, took the reins at Phillips with a goal of carrying on the legacy Rick Phillips started in 1980 while bringing new wellness products to northern Michigan. Dennis feels blessed to have this opportunity and to work alongside such a wonderful team every day. When he’s not at the store, you’ll most likely find him on the golf course or enjoying Traverse City with his family.

Read Bio Debbie Riedel met her husband, Dennis, in Naples, Florida, and together they moved to Traverse City for the wonderful opportunity to lead Phillips Lifestyles. As head of finance and HR, she keeps the business running smoothly behind the scenes and looks after the team that makes Phillips so special. Debbie and Dennis are so happy to be raising their three children, Wendy, Riley and Benjamin, in northern Michigan. A lover of the beach and the outdoors, she’s right at home on the shores of Lake Michigan and exploring the region’s trails and natural beauty.

Read Bio Ryan Gubbins grew up in metro Detroit before moving to Traverse City in high school, where he was part of the very first graduating class at Traverse City West. He began his career on the Phillips Lifestyles delivery crew and worked his way up to General Manager, a path that gave him a hands-on understanding of every part of the business. Today, Ryan is our jack of all trades and, truly, the hardest-working person on the team. He brings energy to the floor every day and leads with skill and efficiency, and we feel blessed to have his hard work and knowledge on our side. Away from work, Ryan is a family man. He has been married for 21 years and has two daughters: one serving in the U.S. Army, and the other a junior in high school. When he’s not on the clock, you’ll find him camping, hiking, and spending time with his family.

Read Bio Born and raised in Traverse City and a proud St. Francis graduate, Tony Fifarek has been part of the Phillips Lifestyles family for 35 years. Known around the store as “Hot Tub Tony,” he’s a true expert on every product we carry, and no one in northern Michigan knows fireplaces better. Tony holds his mechanical license and loves the challenge of the toughest installs, and his energy, great stories, and famously comfortable office chairs (a few clients have dozed off in them) make every visit a good one. Off the clock, this northern Michigan good ol’ boy is tending his chickens, hunting in the fall, or out on the lake in his boat.

Read Bio A Traverse City native born and raised, Tyler Hanna has spent more than 20 years with Phillips Lifestyles, including a stint as general manager. Today he runs our Cherryland store and brings a true passion and commitment to every part of the business, from the showroom floor to service and delivery. Tyler is a big fan of Hot Spring spas and has even visited the factory to see them built. Away from work, you’ll find him camping, riding his side-by-side, spending time with his family, and cheering on the Detroit Lions every Sunday.

Read Bio Originally from Warren, Michigan, Kenny Smith has spent his entire adult life in northern Michigan and has been with Phillips Lifestyles for over 15 years. Before joining the team, he owned and operated his own fireplace shop, and he brings that hands-on expertise to every customer he helps. Kenny grew up in a family of pool players, and billiards is still his true passion, which makes him the go-to guy for a new table or game room. When he’s not at the store, Kenny loves spending time with his grandkids and family, and he never turns down a good ice cream cone.

Read Bio A Kalamazoo-area native, Wesley Bonesteel spent years as a PGA golf professional at courses in California and Florida before settling in northern Michigan, which he’s proudly called home for the last 19 years. His background in the trades makes fireplaces a natural fit, and his hot tub know-how has earned him the nickname “Wet End Wes” around the store. He even toured the Jacuzzi factory in Orlando last year to see how the spas are built. Now living in Cedar, Wesley spends his summers hitting the links and his winters playing hockey and skiing. Traveling with family and friends whenever time allows is a favorite way to spend his off time.
